H1N1 visitor policies: doula excemption

Johnson County hospitals restrict visitors to protect patients
University of Iowa News Release:

Please note that the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are allowing a doula to provide support on the L and D floor, in addition to the two persons the laboring woman has with her. I am very grateful that the UIHC CNMs spoke on behalf of the doulas during the policy making to ensure our access. Other families have had to face the decision between asking a family member or their hired labor support to stay home because of two person restrictions at other institutions.

The UIHC has made efforts to provide their patients with a family focused approach during both the birth and postpartum period. As such I was last told that immediate family members (grandparents, siblings) are allowed to visit. As the policies change please enquire prior to a visit to avoid disappointing your potential visitors.
